REVERENCE – When Darkness Calls
2012 (import / razar Ice Records) – Style: Power Metal

Rough around the edges but still worth a meeting, which was hitherto quite sunken debut of Amis REVERENCE. The troupe, consisting of ex-TOKYO BLADE, ex-SAVATAGE and BURNING STARR Muckern supplies before using `When Darkness Calls’ a flawless power metal album that really should all fans of crisp U.S. Power Metal appeal. Razor sharp riffs, no punches clock, excellent singing, all ingredients for a successful power metal outrage. And so it is. The guitar power is impressive, and with the legendary Steve ‘Dr. Kill Drums’ Wacholz (ex-Savatage) on drums, there is enough pressure from behind. That Todd Michael Hall is an outstanding singer, he has clearly shown, even at BURNING STARR. And so the musical intersection is a kind of mix of BURNING STARR, here and there a little bit of TOKYO BLADE, HELSTAR and somewhat subdued ANTHRAX and a few classic references in the form of DIO. ‘Devil In Disguise’ is a tough mid-tempo scorcher in classic eighties U.S. power metal tradition. The fast `Gatekeeper` is pure stainless steel. `Phantom` Road is one of the high-flyer grenades on the album. Flashy double bass attack, siren-like singing one unbridled U.S. power metal anthem. Very cool. `After The Leaves Have Fallen holds` was loose comparisons to early Queensryche songs and Todd delivers a vocal peak performance! Great! Must have that between the eleven tracks also slipped two / three fewer outstanding songs you mention sure, but that’s not as tragic as this, despite reduced Draft still represent good middle-class quality. Much of the album sounds familiar, because many new musical options are not bands of this genre. But what have REVERENCE delivered here is a solid power metal album with many famous song structures and convincing quality.
