Reverence – When Darkness Calls

Razar Ice Records

It’s funny how things happen. We all know that styles within metal have their ups and downs. Speaking of the apex and fall in popularity of the Power Metal just sounds redundant. Incredibly, I recently went back to listening to that style quite a lot. So it appears in my mailbox this work from an American band named Reverence. I knew little about its existence and so i ran doing proper (and deserved) research without forgetting to put the disc to rotate. To my surprise, despite being a new band – formed in 2010 – the team consists of well known metal artists. We are talking about the guitarist Bryan Holland (former Tokyo Blade), vocalist Todd Michael Hall (Harlet, Jack Starr’s Burning Starr), drummer Steve “Doc” Wacholz (ex-Savatage and Crimson Glory),  Pete Rossi (guitar) and Ned Meloni (bass). The beautiful digipack – illustrated by Jobert Mello from Brazil – gather eleven powerful tracks of the highest quality. Power Metal is the main base of all, being seasoned with Traditional Heavy Metal and a little of Hard Rock. The songs are built to conquer you at the first hearing and they work perfectly. Catchy compositions, easy to assimilate and played with extreme perfection. The songs flow naturally that the nearly fifty minutes fly by, almost unnoticed. So if you like bands like Dio, Judas Priest and Primal Fear, be sure to listen to “When Darkness Calls”. It’s great to know that there are bands qualified to keep that power metal flame burning, and for a long time! 8,5/10
