Rock Hard Magazine – 8/10 – When Darkness Calls Album Review

REVERENCE – When Darkness Calls
Dr. Killdrums is back! After laying down the drum lines on the average Crimson Glory album “Astronomica”, the legendary drummer of the first eight Savatage albums initially disappeared from the scene. Now, together with ex-members of Tokyo Blade, Jack Starr’s Burning Starr and Phantom Lord to name just a few, Steve Wacholz has founded a new Power-Metal-Band that released their first album a few weeks ago. And “When Darkness Calls” definitely sounds as could be hoped for: great singer, who can adequately deliver the powerful and comprehensible vocal lines, (ofcourse) very professionally, maybe just a little too artificially produced drumming and a bunch of riffs that people will remember after listening. Nothing here reminds of Savatage, musically the album is in the same groove as the band Knight Fury that was recently introduced here, while Fifth Angel or Crimson Glory can also be distingiushed. “Bleed for Me”, empowered by an extremely catchy chorus, should absolutely be checked out, as should the beautiful semi-ballad “After The Leaves Have Fallen”, and ofcourse the power-metal-driven “Vengeance Is Mine” and “Gatekeeper”.  Available at Helle Müller (address: see Blacksmith-review).
