According to the album title, the work begins quite gloomy in the MERCYFUL FATE-style, but soon takes an equally punchy as catchy power metal lead. REVERENCE adapt as in other American bands like JAG PANZER, VICIOUS RUMORS and SEVEN WITCHES, with one on “When Darkness Calls” and the slightly dark atmosphere even met a few times. The powerful U.S. power metal is often associated with these mystical, sinister-acting elements, which keeps the musical tension and gives the pieces a little complexity.
The songwriting can be seen throughout, respectively heard. You can tell by the five musicians of REVERENCE that they are not beginners, but already could gather in troops as CRIMSON GLORY, SAVATAGE and JACK STARR’S BURNING STARR experience. The composition remains gutklassig level over the entire album. Which on “When Darkness Calls” are the strongest songs, can be determined by back badly and depends primarily on personal preference. I like ‘When Darkness Calls’, ‘Phantom Road’, ‘gatekeeper’, ‘The Price You Pay’ and ‘Revolution Rising’ best, but it is basically every song on the album, with a customized class quasi-representative of a specific out tip.
Also crafted the professionalism of those involved is obvious. Steve “Doc” Wacholz (ex-Savatage, ex-CRIMSON GLORY) and Ned Meloni (countless bands) pour a strong rhythm foundation on which the two guitarists Pete Rossi (ex SANXTION) and BRYAN HOLLAND (ex TOKYO BLADE) varied their can set can make the scene. Most striking, however, is the variable and expressive vocals of Todd Michael Hall, who also could have occurred by its impressive performance in the last two albums by JACK STARR’S BURNING STARR attention to the Metal community.
REVERENCE leave thus equal with their first album in all respects a good impression. If you like diverse U.S. power metal or start with the aforementioned bands can something should also “When Darkness Calls” can not miss.
