4/5 Metal Crypt – Foreverence Review

Foreverence is a 30-minute EP from Detroit’s Reverence and follows on the heels of 2016’s Gods of War LP. The sound this time is noticeably stripped down and more modern than the band’s previous effort. The riffing is still crunchy but with a sharper edge and the new vocalist has a more direct delivery. He has a strong voice, delivered in the style of classic 80s singers like Bruce Dickinson and especially John Bush. The similarity to Bush and the less complex songwriting easily evokes Armored Saint. The two live tracks at the end (“When Darkness Calls”, “The Price You Pay”) are more indicative of what the band is capable of…Foreverence is solid…
