REVERENCE – “Gods of War”

(Razar Ice Records) I liked the debut of Reverence, supergroup of us power metal animated by Todd Michael Hall, Steve Wacholz and Bryan Holland (HERE); the new “Gods of War” certainly exceeds its predecessor, but not even he stands on the bulk of the market, only to sound a bit ‘fashion. It seems that these talents of the scene with stars and stripes have decided to commit as little as possible to get the best results … but this ‘maximum’ then it is not, on balance, arrived. The title track mixes a classic riffone priestiano a verse much lighter and melodic power metal from Nordic; between Masterplan and Primal Fear “Heart of Gold”, while it is slow paced but not “Angel in Black”. “Battle Cry” is the hit of the album: the Omen have nothing to do (almost) anything, but Hall shows off all its technical, remained unchanged over the years, and the solos are engaging. Our inclined also to the hard rock rough with “Choices Made”, but in the end seem a bit ‘uncertain which way to go; it also shows the power ballad “Splinter” enjoyable but out of scale with the rest. The catchy chorus and again to Primal Fear of “Race to Obscene” closes an album that is defended, but that in the opinion of this writer could do much better.
